What is Heat Pump

A heat pump is a highly efficient, electric HVAC device that provides both heating and cooling by transferring heat rather than generating it. It moves heat from the outside air indoors during winter and reverses the process in summer to cool the home, acting as a 2-in-1 system.

  • Energy Efficiency: Heat pumps can be 300% or more efficient compared to traditional electric baseboards, as they move heat rather than create it.

  • Reversible Operation: They function like a refrigerator, moving heat from a cool space to a warm space

  • Types:

    • Air-Source: The most common type, transferring heat between indoor and outdoor air.

    • Ductless Mini-Split: Ideal for homes without existing ductwork, offering zone-specific control.

  • Components
A heat pump system includes an indoor unit (fan/coil) and an outdoor unit (compressor/coil), connected by refrigerant lines. In cold climates, they can be paired with a furnace for a "dual-fuel" system that switches to gas when temperatures drop extremely low
